Baylor junior Brittney Griner led all scorers in her first international game as the USA Women’s Basketball team surged past its Italian opponent. Griner had 15 points Friday in the 77-48 victory over 2010 Italian league champion Famila Schio in Monte di Procida, Italy. Baylor alumna Sophia Young added eight points to help guide the team to a win in the tournaments’ opening game.

Junior Lady Bear star Brittney Griner is off to Europe. The players who are participating in the 2011 USA Basketball Women’s National Team European training camp and exhibition games were announced Monday. As a No. 1 seed for the first time in program history, the Lady Bears will enjoy the comfort of playing the first round of the NCAA Tournament in the friendly confines of the Ferrell Center at 6:40 p.m. Sunday when they take on Prairie View A&M.

Sophomore Brittney Griner scored 21 points, sophomore Destiny Williams added 18 and Baylor cruised to an 86-53 win over Kansas State in the Big 12 tournament quarterfinals today in Kansas City.
The Lady Bears had no problem beating Kansas for the second time this season, physically dominating the Jayhawks in an 86-51 rout. Destiny Williams scored 21 points to lead Mulkey’s team, who advanced to the Big 12 tournament semifinals with the win.
