The No. 7 Baylor Lady Bears (14-2) lost 66-55 to No. 1 Connecticut (18-0) on Monday at the Ferrell Center. The loss ended a 69-game home winning streak that stretched back to March 7, 2010. The Bears’ only two losses this season have come at the hands of top five teams.
It was a thriller in Dallas at the AT&T Stadium despite the No. 9 Baylor Lady Bears falling to No. 5 Kentucky Wildcats 133-130 after four overtimes on Friday. This game proved that despite the loss of four starters from last year, Baylor is not going anywhere.
“I can tell you I learned a lot about my basketball team tonight,” Baylor head coach Kim Mulkey said. “If that’s the fifth ranked team in the country, we’re alright because we can score with them, but we have to get better defensively.“
The No. 9 Lady Bears will face their toughest challenge of the season, as they are underdogs for the first time against No. 5 Kentucky at 6:30 p.m. today at AT&T Stadium. This is a test for the Lady Bears, but the team is embracing the challenge.
“We’ve been preparing for them,” senior guard Odyssey Sims said. “We’re just going to keep playing like we have been and we’ll be ready.”
It’s a new look for the No. 9 Baylor Lady Bears, without a 6-foot-8-inch center barricading the paint. One thing remains consistent for the Bears and that is heavy guard play. It’s not a surprise that head coach Kim Mulkey stresses exceptional guard play because she played the position in college.
At Louisiana Tech, Mulkey led her team to a 130-6 record, two national titles and four final four appearances. She averaged 6.38 assists to hold the second-most all-time assist record.
The No. 9 Baylor Lady Bears overcame a slow start to defeat the San Jose State Spartans 113-73 on Tuesday at the Ferrell Center. The win marked Baylor’s 64th straight home victory to extend the nation’s longest home winning streak. Baylor has started the season 7-0 for the ninth time in school history, with six of those seasons coming under Baylor head coach Kim Mulkey. Despite the win, Mulkey still wasn’t impressed with the defense.

Senior guard Odyssey Sims became the all-time assist leader with 505 career assists with 13 for the night. The All-American point guard also added 29 points. Sims had a double-double before halftime for the first time in her career. Freshman forward Nina Davis added 15 points while freshman post Khadijiah Cave contributed with 10 points. Senior guard Makenzie Robertson also gave the Lady Bears much needed production with 13 points.

The Lady Bears are defeating opponents by an average of 45.5 points per game using a small lineup featuring freshman forward Nina Davis, senior guard Makenzie Robertson, senior guard Odyssey Sims, sophomore guard Niya Johnson and junior post Sune Agbuke.
The No. 9 Baylor Lady Bears extended their home winning streak to 63 games with a 92-62 win over UTSA Saturday to go 3-0 in the Athletes in Action Classic.
“Three wins in three days and a lot of playing time for players,” Baylor head coach Kim Mulkey said. “Obviously, I won’t be able to play that many players as the competition gets tougher. We still haven’t adjusted well to the fouls; we gave up way too many fouls and gave them way too many free throws. We gave them too many points. Sixty-two points is not good.”
Baylor overcame an early first half scare to defeat Northwestern State 88-54 Friday in the Lady Bears second game of the Athletes in Action Classic at the Ferrell Center.
“At halftime, I talked to them about their defense and how we didn’t play very good defense,” Baylor head coach Kim Mulkey said. “It was obvious when they were shooting a higher percentage than us from the field and we were missing too many free throws and we weren’t getting post touches.”

Sophomore post Kristina Higgins scored 14 points while adding 11 rebounds for her first career double-double. Junior post Sune Agbuke added 10 points and 10 rebounds for her second career double-double.

“You get a lot of basketball,” Baylor head coach Kim Mulkey said. “You get to continue to see a lot of combinations. We’ll attack a lot of different defenses. I’m sure we’ll see a lot of zone, and we need to do that. We need to attack zones. We need to do a better job with rebounding.”
Leadership has different forms. For senior guard Odyssey Sims, it’s all about action. Her ability to take over games and propel No. 9 Baylor Lady Bears to wins is unmatched.
Despite Sims being the only returning starter, Baylor hasn’t lost a step, winning by an average of margin of 47 points.
It was the Odyssey Sims show as the senior guard put on a dominating performance Monday, leading No. 9 Baylor to a 79-46 win at the Ferrell Center to move to 3-0 this season.
Sims finished the night with 33 points, three assists and two rebounds and outscored Rice at halftime 21-16. When head coach Kim Mulkey took Sims out, she only trailed the entire Rice team by one point. This is the fourth straight game Sims has scored more than 20 points dating back to last year’s Sweet 16 game.
