Kung Fu Panda, The Freak, The Beard and all their seed-throwing buddies are on top of baseball — again.

They may be under the radar, unappreciated and unexpected. But they’re unassailable, the winner of two World Series titles in the last three years.

Their sweep of the Detroit Tigers, completed Sunday night with a 4-3, 10-inning win, was simply historic.

No National League team had swept a World Series since the 1990 Cincinnati Reds.

A 103-75 win for the No. 18 Baylor basketball team over the Abilene Christian Wildcats showed the high ceiling for the Bears.

A five-run first inning gave the National Professional Fastpitch All Star team a winning start over the Baylor softball team Tuesday at Getterman Stadium. Despite the Lady Bears’ efforts, the game ultimately resulted in a score of 8-0.

Wednesday marked a monumental day in baseball history. Miguel Cabrera, the Detroit Tigers third baseman, accomplished what baseball players only dream about. He won baseball’s coveted Triple Crown. Cabrera became the first player in forty-five years to accomplish this feat, leading the American League with 44 home runs, a .330 batting average and 139 RBIs.

The Oakland Athletics captured the AL West with another improbable rally in a season full of them, coming back from four runs down and a 13-game division deficit to stun the two-time defending league champion Texas Rangers 12-5 on Wednesday.

With his recent success against the Texas Rangers, Cole De Vries was glad he got a second chance to face the top-scoring team in the majors.

De Vries won for the first time in nearly two months, Ben Revere had four hits and the Minnesota Twins held off the Rangers 6-5 Sunday to snap a five-game losing streak.

Reliever Dillon Newman allowed only an infield hit in five shutout innings and Jake Miller drove in three runs to help Baylor beat Dallas Baptist 8-2 Monday to win the Waco Regional and host a Super Regional.

Baylor struck early but sputtered down the stretch as the No. 1 seeded Bears fell, 4-2, to 4-seed Oral Roberts in the two teams’ first game of the Waco Regional on Friday night.

No. 3 Baylor baseball will take on the No. 25 New Mexico State Aggies tonight and Saturday. Both games of the two-game series will be at Baylor Ballpark, and the top 25 showdown should test both teams.

Not long after the third pitch of the game left junior pitcher Courtney Repka’s hand, it was sent over the right field wall as No. 25 Baylor softball fell Tuesday in College Station to the No. 19 Aggies 10-2.

“Others receiving votes.” That’s where the Baylor baseball team was in the rankings to begin the season. A record of 35-7, including 24 straight wins, has changed the minds of voters around the country.

A record crowd of 5,911 came out to Baylor Ballpark to watch the No. 6 Bears take on the No. 2 Texas A&M Aggies. Baylor won their 23rd game in a row in a 1-0 pitchers duel over the Aggies. Senior right-handed pitcher Trent Blank earned the win, reaching 9-0 on the year. The Bears is now 34-7 on the year, and 17-0 in Big 12 play.

There was no shortage of offense for the No. 6 Baylor baseball team as it tied its all-time win streak total of 20 games by beating the Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi Islanders Tuesday 15-2. The game was ended after the top of the seventh due to run rule.
