No. 25 Baylor baseball extended its winning streak to three games after an 8-4 win at Baylor Ballpark Wednesday night against Northwestern State. Freshman pitcher Theron Kay started for the Bears, pitched five innings and allowed zero runs.

No. 7 Baylor softball held its own for six innings against No. 2 Oregon on Thursday night. However, the Ducks pulled together a three-run seventh inning to put the game out of reach as the Bears dropped the 4-1 loss at Getterman Stadium.

No. 7 Baylor softball has jumped out to a 9-0 start – the best record since the 14-0 season start in 2011. However, that spotless record will be put to the test as Baylor hosts No. 2 Oregon tonight at Getterman Stadium to kick off the 2015 Baylor Invitational. This is the first ranked opponent the Bears will face this season, putting a lot of importance on the nationally televised matchup.

Over the next past weeks, No. 7 Baylor softball has debuted its relatively young bullpen in nine games, including games at Getterman Stadium and in the NSU Demon Invitational in Natchitoches, La., showing off a plethora of both experienced pitchers and newcomers on the pitching mound.

It was 39 degrees at No. 21 Baylor Baseball’s midweek tilt against Dallas Baptist University Tuesday night. The Patriots cooled down the Bears’ hot start to 2015 with a three-run ninth inning, making it a 9-6 final score in favor of Dallas Baptist.

No. 9 Baylor softball is off to a hot start in the 2015 season, and things didn’t cool down for the Bears as they took four straight wins at the Northwestern State University Demon Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.

The No. 10 Baylor softball team didn’t just need one win to advance to tomorrow’s championship game, but they needed to defeat Texas A&M-Corpus Christi twice on Saturday afternoon.

Despite a couple of errors and a close draw in each match, the Bears came away with a 6-3 win in pool play and a 3-0 win in bracket play over the Islanders to remain undefeated at the Getterman Classic.

No. 10 Baylor softball showcased new faces and veteran talent in the team’s season opening tournament Friday afternoon, and despite some sluggish innings, the Bears blew past Wichita State 7-4 and Stephen F. Austin 10-3 at Getterman Stadium.

When the stakes were highest, Baylor softball delivered. They were underdogs heading into the series, but calmly stepped up to take both games from No. 4 Georgia to advance to the Women’s College World Series for the first time since 2011.

After finishing second in the Big 12, with a record of 42-13, Baylor softball earned the right to host the NCAA Regionals round of the softball NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2009. The No. 13-seeded Bears will host Northwestern State, Houston and Tulsa over May 16-18 at Getterman Stadium.

He’s been the backbone of Baylor success this season. He’s bailed out his team 16 times on 17 save chances, and yet, it was only his first season as the closer in his entire career. It was a near perfect season for senior closer Josh Michalec. Baylor head coach Steve Smith said the numbers speak for themselves in terms of how effective Michalec was in 2014.

It’s the home stretch for Baylor baseball. This season has brought some ups and lot of downs for the Bears, but there is still a flame of hope burning for this ball club. At this point, the Bears have their eyes focused on just one goal, to qualify for the Big 12 tournament.

When senior left-hander Whitney Canion is on her game, there are few hitters in all of college softball that can hope to hit off of her. McNeese State’s lineup learned that the hard way, as Canion threw her fifth no-hitter and second seven-inning no-hitter of her career on Wednesday at Getterman Stadium.

When it comes to fielding, the shortstop is often considered to be the most important position on a softball field. The shortstop is expected to cover more ground and make more split second plays than arguably any other position on the diamond.

The Bears were able to use early offense to their advantage, scoring seven runs through three innings in a decisive 7-1 victory over the visiting North Texas Mean Green Tuesday at Getterman Stadium.
