The last top-grossing movie in the U.S. that was not a sequel or based on something that already existed was 2009’s “Avatar.” The last original top-grossing movie that was not a part of a franchise was 1998’s “Saving Private Ryan.” Forty years ago, original films made up most of the box office hits, but now the script has flipped. So what happened?

According to clinical associate professor Dr. Benjamin Ryan, in terms of the endemic phase, the virus is in a more steady state. He said the spread of the omicron variant was a step toward the pandemic becoming an endemic.

Baylor Scott & White Health’s Faith in Action Initiatives is accepting the aid of nonprofits and donations in sending medical supplies to Ukraine. Faith in Action is the humanitarian aid and medical admissions arm for Baylor Scott & White Health. According to the Baylor Scott & White Health website, Faith in Action Initiatives was started “to maximize its [Baylor Scott & White] impact locally and worldwide.”

The Baylor Faculty Senate passed a resolution in support of academic freedom for faculty at the University of Texas (UT) and other public universities to teach critical race theory (CRT). The March 15 resolution comes in the wake of comments from Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who proposed introducing legislation that would revoke tenure from university professors who teach CRT.

Today at noon in Cashion Academic Center, Multicultural Affairs looks to celebrate Women’s History Month and Martin Luther King Jr. in a joint way, unlike its separate events of the past. Multicultural Affairs will host a luncheon featuring David Pollard, who will do a reading in tribute to MLK, and Casondra Burkley, who will share some of Coretta Scott King’s story.

An estimated 2.3 billion people around the globe currently do not have access to a clean, sustainable source of water. The Baylor Wells Project is a student organization with the goal of bringing attention to the water scarcity distress around the globe.

New Student Programs (NSP) is currently recruiting students to be Welcome Week leaders for this upcoming fall. Applications are open until 11:59 p.m. on April 3, and up until March 31, NSP will be tabling at various locations around campus so that students can learn more about being a Welcome Week leader.

Trophy Club junior Maddie Howarth was at her off-campus home with her roommate a few weeks before spring break when they received a notification saying an unidentified AirTag had been tracking them. According to Howarth, the notification stated the tracking began at 3 p.m., but they were not notified until midnight.
