“Everyone there loves being there, and that’s the difference between high school band and college band. In high school, you have to be in marching band if you want to be in concert band, but people sign up for BUGWB because they love it so much and they keep coming back because it’s an amazing place. If the people weren’t there, it would be a completely different experience,” Nielsen said.

“Where there is a will, there is a way,” Jordan Phillips, half of duo Apollo LTD, said. “I think that we kind of had a system, a method of creating, that we were pretty accustomed to and when the pandemic hit, it kind of forced us to change up how we did things. When we changed it up, we kind of realized that we could do it this way too.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing our grounds full of smiling faces again,” Chavra Ingram, HOT vice president of marketing and sponsorship development, said. “We missed everybody last year and we are just so excited to be open and have everybody come back this year.”

Common Grounds halted its open mic night two years ago as the coffee shop went through company transitions. It’s officially back and Waco artists are more eager than ever to perform on the famous backyard stage.

“The only thing that I have consistently done is music,” Obevoen said. “Since I was about five, I started playing guitar; then I taught myself how to play piano, drums, bass, a little violin and ukulele.”

After the initial listening party, fans assumed Kanye West was set to drop the album that night. However, anyone who has been listening to West for years can tell you to never expect a Kanye West album to be released until it’s already downloaded on your phone.

In the last decade, rap has been dominated by the big three: J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar and Drake. The three rappers have established their own respective styles, which have achieved greatness in their own ways.
