By Kaitlyn DeHaven | Digital Managing EditorCollege is exhausting. Everyone knows that. Balancing your academic life with your social life, family life, spiritual life and still leaving time at the end of the day for yourself is flat-out draining. As a result of this, we’re inclined to say no to extra responsibilities, skip class every now and then to get a few extra hours of shut-eye and spend the time we’re actually in class staring off into space because “we just can’t today.” Now, I’m definitely a culprit of the school slump. I’m rarely seen in my classes with something…

By Kaitlyn DeHaven | Digital Managing Editor Now, before all of the sweater-loving, apple cider-drinking, foliage-obsessed people of the world come and attack me, hear me out. I’m one of you. If you think for a second that I’m not sitting here writing this article with a pumpkin spice latte in my hand, you’re wrong. But, regardless of my love for PSLs, there’s no denying that it’s too early for the release of this popular fall beverage. First of all, it’s still blazing hot outside. I know that we live in Texas, and it’s always blazing hot outside, but it’s…

By Kaitlyn DeHaven | Social Media EditorStudents in the Philanthropy and the Public Good course this semester granted $60,000 to non-profit organizations that proved themselves worthy of the funds. The organizations received their funds Monday afternoon at the Check Award Ceremony in McLane Stadium. The students were divided into groups at the beginning of the semester, education, poverty, health and miscellaneous, and these groups determined which types of non-profit organizations they would research and focus on. Throughout the semester, the students worked with the non-profit organizations and Aramark, the donors of the money, to assess the individual needs of the non-profits…
By Kaitlyn DeHaven | Social Media Editor Caffeine isn’t for everyone. When I was a sophomore in high school, I swore off caffeine for two years because of high anxiety levels. Now, as a junior in college who has probably slightly over-committed herself, that simple cup of coffee in the morning is a necessity to drag myself out of my soft, cozy, blanket-filled bed in the morning.I’ve been on both sides of the classic “to-be or not to-be” tale. I’ve loved caffeine, and I’ve lost caffeine. But, I’ve found ultimately that sometimes, caffeine might just be a necessary evil in…
Kaitlyn DeHaven | Social Media Editor BZZ. BZZ. BZZ. I reached over to shut off my alarm. 6:45 a.m. on a Friday might be outrageous to some, but I had high hopes for my destination — The Magnolia Table. The week before I visited the restaurant myself, I had seen countless pictures of friends who had already made their way to the Table. The experiences I had heard were all positive, and my own experience in the restaurant did not fall short. From the moment I arrived around 7:45 a.m. to the moment I was seated, the wait was about…
By Kaitlyn DeHaven | Social Media Editor You hear it filling your car on a long road trip, floating across a coffee shop on a rainy Sunday afternoon or even in your room while you get ready to go on a date with that boy you’ve been flirting with for months now. Music fills our days, spilling over into so many parts of our lives that we sometimes fail to notice its sweet serenade. While it’s wonderful that such artistic melodies are so engrained into our lives, it’s vital that instead of just leaving it as the background soundtrack to…
Kaitlyn DeHaven | Social Media Editor Not even the now-famous #SelfieKid could diminish the feeling Justin Timberlake brought to the 2018 SuperBowl halftime performance Sunday night. Fans all around the world had been anticipating the performance, ready for Timberlake to bring his dance moves and soulful singing to center-field stage. Based upon the outcome of the show, they were likely not disappointed. In the past three years, the SuperBowl stage has seen colorful performances from Katy Perry, Coldplay and Lady Gaga. As the halftime show took off with a slow pace, I worried Timberlake would have a difficult time competing…
By Kaitlyn DeHaven | Social Media Editor I’ve always been a relatively messy person –– not a dirty person — just a messy person. Ever since I was a little girl, my bed was always piled high with books, clothes were scattered on the floor instead of in the hamper and my writings and drawings would fly around whenever someone walked into my room. I learned early on that a great way to excuse my messiness was to say that creative people were just messier people. I figured that since being creative was a good thing, my room being messy…

By Kaitlyn DeHaven | Design EditorPlants are a great addition to any room or yard, bringing vitality and life to an empty space. Recently I’ve noticed that there are some inappropriate words that have slipped into our vocabularies. No, I’m not talking about those four-letter words — the “bad” words — I’m talking about the ones I hear tossed around like no big deal every day, the ones that have the potential to really hurt people emotionally, the ones that could bring a bad memory to the surface and maybe even cause someone to relapse into an unhealthy state. One of the phrases I’ve heard a lot lately is “this test totally raped me.” The phrase is usually used in the context of…
Baylor students enjoyed a day off Tuesday petting exotic animals, getting slimed while running and dancing the night away with guest artist Ansolo. The day began with students looking to get a head start on their summer fitness by running in community while simultaneously getting covered in the colors of the rainbow in the Diadeloso Fun Run. At 9 a.m. Tuesday, students flooded the McLane Stadium concourse waiting for a good workout and to become a mess in the slime, color and bubbles. The race cost $10 for each participant, and each runner got a free T-shirt with their registration. Colleyville…
