We’re all in the thick of it right now. The final stretch of the spring semester. Most of us have been tasked with the inevitable reality of group project difficulties in the midst of all the chaos the end of a semester brings. We all are dealt absurd schedule strains and uncontrollable challenges each semester. Personally, as a senior within weeks of my graduation, I have many final tasks to fulfill apart from school. It is a frantic period of time, quite frankly, in which many of us seniors are finishing classes to either fill a minimum hour requirement or…

DALLAS – Unlike all of the Sweet 16 action in the NCAA women’s bracket on Friday, which had all four higher-seed teams lose, the No. 1 seed Lady Bears posted a convincing win over No. 5 seed Florida, 78-58 on Saturday at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.Junior guard opened the game with 11 points through two the first two quarter. But it wasn’t Jones who posted had the MVP performance. As much as Baylor has exploited their usual size advantage over opposing teams, it was Davis, a 5-foot-11 forward, that broke the backs of the Seminoles. Junior forward Nina Davis…
Over the past few weeks, we have seen an unprecedented influx of protests from left wing activist groups to suppress other Americans. The demonstrations have gotten gradually worse and more volatile. It started with a few people infiltrating political rallies of political candidates, both Republican and Democrat. In August of 2014, two members of the Black Lives Matter movement hijacked a Bernie Sanders rally in downtown Seattle, subjecting Sanders to the role of a mere bystander as the representatives of the Black Lives Matter movement propagated their agenda. In the past two weeks, protesters have forcibly shut down more political…

The Power Five conferences passed new legislation one medical officer is calling the most important piece of safety legistlation in NCAA history on Jan. 15 during the NCAA Convention in San Antonio. The new law guarantees medical personnel job security in return-to-play situations. In other words, team medical staff cannot be threatened or fired if they prohibit a player from returning to the game, despite a coach’s desire for the player to return. Although the law is being touted as a game-changer for the NCAA, Baylor athletics has had protection for its team medical staff since the 1990s, said Baylor…
Baylor quarterback Seth Russell announced Monday morning via Instagram that he was cleared by doctors to return to the field.Russell started last season for Baylor football until suffering a season-ending neck injury against Iowa State on Oct. 24.”To God be the glory! Prayers have been answered,” Russell said on Instagram. “Thanks to Doctor Emery, Doctor Russell and the entire West Virginia spine center for keeping my dream alive! Had one of my last check ups today and was given the go to getting back on the field and back to work!”Russell wasn’t Baylor’s only quarterback to suffer an injury last…
The Division I Council of the NCAA approved a proposal on Wednesday to allow FBS conferences without 12 members (i.e. Big 12 Conference) to have a conference championship football game. Although this approval could directly affect the Big 12, a 10-member conference, Big 12 Conference Commissioner Bob Bowlsby said it may be too soon to expect a Big 12 Conference championship game. “It is too early to speculate on the impact this will have without member institutions regarding a football championship game.” – Bob Bowlsby “It is too early to speculate on the impact this will have without member institutions…
ORLANDO, FLA. – The No. 17 Bears played in state they never played in before (Florida) and won in a way they never have won before. Fueled almost entirely by the run-game, the No. 17 Bears overpowered the No. 10 North Carolina Tar Heels for a 49-38 win in the Russell Athletic Bowl at the Citrus Bowl Stadium in Orlando, Fla. Baylor fans were probably expecting to see sophomore quarterback Chris Johnson taking the majority of the snaps for the Bears’ offense before the Russell Athletic Bowl kicked off in Orlando, Fla. But the very notion of playcalling a Baylor…
Whose schedule isn’t loaded at this point in the semester? Group projects, multiple jobs, applying for scholarships and internships: the list of responsibilities goes on and on. Life is tiresome at this point in our lives. We’re caught up in this seemingly incessant obstacle course of managing time, accomplishing tasks and maintaining our health. Speaking from personal experience, I’ve lost sight of the importance and invaluableness of rest. I’m sure many of you could relate. And it may come as a surprise, but God can relate to this conundrum as well. During his time on earth, Jesus was a busy…

The No. 5 Bears were in full control on Saturday as they defeated the Rice Owls 70-17 on Saturday at McLane Stadium. Junior quarterback Seth Russell threw five first half touchdowns to quickly put the game too far out of reach for the Owls. The few times the Owls bested the Bears’ defense was on a short field. Rice’s two touchdowns on Saturday each resulted from drives that started within 25 yards of the touchdown. Field position and penalties are what kept the Owls in the game early, but the Bears pulled away in the second quarter. Furthermore, untimely fumbles…
Former Baylor University head football coach Grant Teaff was in the intensive care unit of Providence Health Center Thursday. Teaff was admitted to the ICU after blacking out Monday while walking to his car at his office adjacent to Baylor’s campus. Teaff drove himself to the emergency room. Doctors discovered Teaff had multiple blood clots in his lungs, he said. Teaff said he expects to be out of ICU by early next week. Teaff said he’ll be cheering from his hospital room Saturday when Baylor hosts former Southwest Conference opponent Rice at McLane Stadium. Since February 1994, Teaff has been…
Big 12 Conference Commissioner Bob Bowlsby announced Wednesday a public reprimand of Baylor assistant football coach Jeff Lebby for his attendance at the football game between the University of Oklahoma and Tulsa University at Memorial Stadium on Saturday. “The opportunity for Coach Lebby to scout a future opponent by being on the sideline of a conference member’s opponent is inconsistent with the principles and expectations of the Big 12 Sportsmanship and Ethical Conduct Policy,” Bowlsby said. “I appreciate the action of Baylor athletics director Ian McCaw in addressing this matter and accept the University’s self-imposed penalty.” McCaw announced Baylor was…

Judging from the model renderings, Fountain Mall looks like it’s going to be beautiful once construction is finished. I’ve got no qualms about the idea of Fountain Mall’s name actually making sense now. My issue is with how the school has gone about directing traffic around it. Thus far, Baylor has done the bare minimum in terms of helping students get around during this period of construction. How many times have they forcefully changed our routes for getting around campus? I understand that the fences have to move from time to time because the work area changes all the time.…
By Joshua Davis, Sports Writer As the college football season draws near, I have found myself poring over numbers and schedules to see who will have the best shot at winning the Heisman Trophy. Anyone who knows anything about college football realizes that no amount of studying and analyzing can help predict the prestigious award’s recipient. If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s that college football is unpredictable, especially the Heisman trophy winner. Not surprisingly, I chose to stick with the recent trend of Heisman winners by continuing with quarterbacks and running backs. In case you didn’t…
