You see the same posts all over Facebook, the ones posted by women who were betrayed, friends who lost touch, and people wondering what they did wrong in general. “Don’t cross oceans for people who wouldn’t jump a puddle for you.” There was a time when I had a similar attitude towards those who were cruel to me. Why waste my energy when they weren’t? Why devote time to someone clearly not dedicated to our friendship? It’s easy to let anger and rejection cloud our judgment of others, but here’s why you should keep a clear head and never grow…

By Jacquelyn Kellar | Broadcast Editor We all know the drill. The Facebook status changes, the initial photos go up, and an entire album follows shortly after. Photos of girls clutching at their friend’s hand with the sparkly new gem, all posted with a clever hashtag, invade your Instagram accounts, and sparking excitement (and even just a bit of jealousy). It’s the time in our lives when engagement after engagement pops up, seemingly every weekend. There is always an outpouring of joy for each new couple, but for some onlookers, there can be an element of morbid curiosity: the dating…
It’s the time of year again when honors students must present and defend their theses. Thesis papers have the reputation of thick stacks of paper, academic research and heavy eyelids. However, that isn’t always the case. An honors thesis at Baylor can be about anything the student takes an interest in, even if it is outside his or her area of study. The thesis doesn’t even have to be on paper. In fact, honors and University Scholars students are encouraged to choose thesis topics that will broaden their thinking, instead of boxing themselves into topics related to their majors.Austin senior…
Baylor University has been an important symbol of Waco since 1885, but the surrounding area has an equally rich history that can still be seen on the streets of the city. The country’s elite populated the Waco area right after Baylor was founded, cropping up along the streets of Waco beginning in the 1850s. Some of these historic homes are now under the care of the Historic Waco Foundation, a group devoted to educating people about the past and preserving the homes for the future. The house with the most unique architecture and colorful history, according to Donald Davis, the…

Europe, and much of the rest of the world, trembles in the wake of the Brussels attacks. Like in many past instances, the world bands together to provide virtual support via social media. In the four months since the Paris attacks, the red, white and blue striped profile pictures have died off and are now being replaced by black, red and yellow in support of Belgium. A makeshift memorial was erected in the center of the city with flowers and chalk, and local residents are offering their homes to those trapped without transportation under the hashtag #PorteOuvertez meaning “open door.”…
The Martin Museum of Art is displaying the work of art students completed within the past year. The show opened at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday with a reception in the Martin Museum, and it will run through April 17. Guest juror Clint Willour, curator of the Galveston Art Center, presented awards and monetary prizes to the selected students. Since many submitted pieces were projects for the same courses and could look similar, Willour said choosing the winner of each category could be difficult. Upon…
Growing up, my most terrifying and harrowing experience was my brush with death…against a jellyfish. My family and I make the trek to the beach almost every summer, but a week of sharing a house with my boy cousins reminded me why I was so grateful to be an only child. A competitive side of myself came out every year, and that is what got me into trouble that day at the beach. In my attempts to be brave and swim out as far as the boys, I ran into a tangle of tentacles that wrapped themselves around my legs…

Denmark continues to authorize entry to Syrian refugees, but at what cost? So why are the same refugees who escaped their war torn country now fleeing Denmark by the thousands and fervently discouraging others from arriving? The stipulations and requirements for entry placed on immigrants…
