Ariana Grande, Kaia Gerber, Phoebe Dynevor, Kim Kardashian. Influencers, actresses, singers, models. All very powerful women — women who have also had a common love interest: comedian Pete Davidson.
A question that has been asked time and time again is “How?” How is he doing it? How is he dating so many powerful, gorgeous women? Yes, he is a successful comedian, and he isn’t ugly, but he definitely has a history of dating up.
While I don’t know Davidson personally, he is a famous example of how looks really aren’t a priority when it comes to dating; personality is, even in Hollywood. Another one of his noted exes, actress and model Kate Beckinsale, liked a tweet by user @missmulrooney that commented on his personality.
“I love how every time Pete Davidson starts dating another beautiful celebrity everyone’s like ‘[what] is happening how did he do this what is this mystery???’ and everybody refuses to entertain the possibility that he might have a nice personality,” @missmulrooney said.
Davidson’s attractiveness, as well as those in similar situations, can be explained through research. For example, Davidson is a successful comedian, so there are people who will find him funny.
According to a Healthline article written by Cathy Cassata, three studies done by researcher Dr. Jeffrey Hall came to a conclusion on laughter.
“When it comes to romantic connection, laughing can really seal the deal,” Cassata said.
This doesn’t just apply to Davidson. It applies to everyone. Charisma can lead to connection, even with a beauty and a beast. Hall’s studies also concluded “that when strangers meet, the more times a man tries to be funny and the more times a woman laughs at those attempts, the more likely it is for the woman to be interested in dating.”
Besides the theory that Davidson’s humor is what lands him the ladies, there is the possibility that he may just be kind. In an interview with Paper Magazine, Davidson said he does all the love languages for his partner.
“My love language, when I’m in a relationship, is I treat the person I’m with like a princess. I try and go as above and beyond as possible, because that’s what you’re supposed to do? If you’re in a relationship with someone, you’re just supposed to make that person feel as special as possible,” Davidson said.
While I usually would be wary of anyone bragging about how well they treat all of their significant others, Davidson has the numbers to prove that there is a large possibility that he treats many of his relationships well. Even after he officially broke off a 2.5-year relationship through text with actress and director Cazzie David, while they were on a break initiated by her, and posted his new girlfriend at the same time the day after, they are still friends. She even thanks him in her acknowledgments of “No One Asked for This: Essays.“
If they’re still friends after that, notwithstanding his friendly nature with many of his other exes, Davidson proves that looks don’t matter. Charisma and treating your partner well in relationships is what gets the girl or guy. If you don’t have charisma, you can learn the love languages and learn to treat your significant other right when they come along, or you can pick up a joke book.
