Stray animals in Waco are neglected

Baylor University can easily be called a safe haven for many of its students. After all, opportunity awaits around every corner in the form of support from staff and peers.

However, on such a prosperous campus, there has been a group that doesn’t get as many resources, the cats and dogs.

The stray animal population in Waco is increasingly high, resulting in many cats and dogs finding themselves without a home. It should be no surprise that this problem has spread to Baylor’s campus.

The past few years have seen a surge in stray cats, and many of these animals are in desperate need of medical attention. Just last week, I encountered a cat on campus in need of serious medical help after being run over and left unable to walk.

After seeking help for the cat, I learned that all the animal shelters in the area close at a certain hour each night, resulting in my inability to provide for the stray.

This should not be the case. The city of Waco is aware of this stray animal issue and should take steps to keep all these animals safe, including a safety rescue team on call 24 hours of each day.
