    Monday, Aug. 21

     

    (Partial) Solar Eclipse

     

    Location: Anywhere outside | Cost: Free | Time: 11:40 a.m. to 2:39 p.m.

    Waco will be experiencing a partial solar eclipse with 70% of the sun being covered from 11:40 a.m. to 2:39 p.m. The maximum coverage will be at 1:10 p.m., but you will need special eyewear to view this event that won’t happen again until April 20, 2024. Dr. Trey Cade, assistant research professor and director of the Baylor Institute for Air Science, gives advice for the best way to view the solar eclipse in Waco. Click here for more information.

    “What the Health” showing

    Location: Waco Hippodrome | Cost: Free | Time: 7 p.m.

    As a part of its Independent Movie Mondays, the Waco Hippodrome will be showing What the Health at 7 p.m. The documentary uncovers large health secrets and how several organizations are working to keep them hidden from the public. This will give you something to think about as you pick up your lunch from Penland.

    Tuesday, Aug. 22

     

    Heart of Texas Farmers Market

    Location: 4601 Bosque Blvd | Cost: Free | Time: 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, until the end of August, The Heart of Texas Farmers Market will be bringing fresh locally grown food to Waco residents and Baylor students. If you have a free Tuesday and need to stock your fridge, here is where you need to be.

    John McClanahan: The Velasco Paintings

    Location: Martin Museum of Art | Cost: Free | Time: 10 a.m.- 6 p.m., Tues.- Fri.

    Wednesday, Aug. 23

     

    Mosaic Mixer

    Location: Barfield Drawing Room | Cost: Free | Time: 6:30 p.m.

    The Department of Multicultural Affairs will begin Mosaic Week with Mosaic Mixer at 6:30 p.m. in the Bill Daniel Student Center courtyard. There will be a live DJ, free food for the first 500 students and organizational booths set up for meet-and-greet. At 7 p.m., there will be a showcase to finish off the night.

    Open Mic Night at Common Grounds

    Location: Common Grounds | Cost: Free | Time: 8 p.m.

    Every Wednesday night Common Grounds will open up their stage to performers from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. to present themselves and their art under Common Grounds canopy of string lights. This week’s featured artist will be Justin Philip Brooks.

    Thursday, Aug. 24

     

    Black Student Welcome

    Location: Barfield Drawing Room | Cost: Free | Time: 6:30 p.m.

    The Black Student Union at Baylor will present “House Party” as their Black Student Welcome for incoming black freshman. With an organization fair at the beginning, the purpose of the event is to show the support between each black student organization at Baylor.

    Welcome Back ’80s Party

    Location: Cricket’s Draft House and Grill | Cost: Free | Time: 10 p.m.- 2 a.m.

    Cricket’s Drafthouse and Grill will be hosting a free Welcome Back ’80s Party. From 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., Cricket’s will be filled with ’80s dance music and costume contests for singles and couples.

    Waco 52 Pop-up Gallery

    Location: 712 Austin Ave. | Cost: Free | Time: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Mon. – Sat.

    Waco 52 Pop-up Gallery will exhibit 52 art pieces 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday at 712 Austin Ave. The gallery exemplifies talented local artists and will leave Aug. 31.

    Former Baylor Art Department Chair John McClanahan’s collection “The Velasco Paintings“ will feature abstract landscape paintings and water color works from Aug. 22 to Sept. 24 at Martin Museum of Art.

    Friends for Life: Galloping for Grannies

    Date: Sept. 9 | Location: Woodway Park | Cost: $10- $25 | Time: 8 a.m.

    Friends for Life is hosting its first a 5k run and 1 mile fun run with prizes for winners. Friends for Life was founded in Waco to improve the quality of life for senior citizens and people with disabilities.
