The stage at Waco Hall will be lit up once again during this Homecoming’s traditional Pigskin Revue. From Thursday to Saturday, Pigskin will welcome the spring’s top Sing acts back to the stage to reprise their performances to audiences of alumni, students and guests to Baylor.
Student tickets for Pigskin went for sale on October 20th and have already sold out. The popularity of Pigskin is a testament to the Homecoming tradition’s quality and endurance.
This year, top three Sing finishers Phi Kappa Chi, Kappa Omega Tau, and Pi Beta Phi will all refresh their acts for both new and old audiences. Phi Kappa Chi charmed Sing audiences, including the Lariat’s critics, with its winning tribute to the Dust Bowl era and hardworking farmers. This fall, the fraternity will perform for Pigskin’s finale.
Kappa Sigma, Delta Delta Delta, Alpha Tau Omega, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and Chi Omega will also be returning to Waco Hall this Homecoming. Each group has been rehearsing since the beginning of the semester to make their acts even better than they were during the competition at Sing.
“Our group, we’ve been practicing four or five nights a week since school started, two hours each night,” said Salado senior Hunter Ward, one of Kappa Omega Tau’s Pigskin Chairs. “We have a lot of people participating that didn’t participate before, a lot of sophomores that joined in the spring. Having them brings a new, fun energy to the group.”
Kappa Omega Tau will perform its second-place act “Grand Hotel,” which features fraternity members dressed as bellboys, for the audience at Pigskin. Other characters coming to the stage will be the nuns of Pi Beta Phi, the goddesses of Chi Omega, and the merry thieves of Kappa Sigma.
Student Productions, which puts on Pigskin, has been preparing the stage for these acts for several months now. Their work and the work of the participating acts is meant to welcome guests to the unique Baylor tradition.
“Pigskin has been a tradition for many years and it’s very important, not only to performers and students, but also alumni who were already performers,” said Helotes senior Elijah Rangel, the external relations officer for Student Productions.
Ward said that Pigskin is particularly special because it allows alumni to see the legacy of the groups they were members of at Baylor.
The women of Pi Beta Phi will be opening the night with their act “Back in the Habit,” followed by Kappa Sigma’s “The World WIll Know.” One of Pi Beta Phi’s Sing Chairs, Leawood, Kan. senior Allie Boyd, hopes that her sorority will brighten the stage for all those in attendance this Homecoming weekend.
“We’ve been focusing on encouraging the girls to give it every ounce of joy and enthusiasm they have,” Boyd said. “We really want the purpose to be to glorify the Lord.”
