The second-ranked Baylor acrobatics & tumbling team pulled off a huge upset over No. 1 ranked Oregon on Thursday. Oregon (3-1) claimed the national championship title last season and was undefeated until losing to the Bears (5-0) last week. Baylor’s win marked Oregon’s first-ever home loss in program history at the Matthew Knight Arena.

The Bears overcame an early deficit with a dominant performance in the pyramid heats, posting perfect 10s in all three and near-perfect scores in the tumbling heats. The final score from Eugene, Ore. was 279.77-278.25.

“Although we made some significant mistakes early in the meet, the team remained poised and kept fighting,” Baylor head coach Felecia Mulkey said. “Kiara Nowlin and Lauren Strum each turned in solid performances in tumbling and our tumbling quad pass improved from the last meet and played a huge role in narrowing the gap.”
