Baylor soccer freshman Precious Akanyrige was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for her performance for the week of Aug. 25.  The Bears played Utah Valley and Brigham Young over that stretch.

Akanyrige took only one shot over the week, but the goal proved to be the game-winner as Baylor soccer upset No. 23 BYU in Provo, Utah. The freshman has started three games this season and contributed five shots and two on goal.

Sophomore midfield Ashley York was the last Bear to win the award during the week of Aug. 27, 2013. Baylor soccer (3-1-0) will take on Incarnate Word (0-3-0) at 7 p.m. on Friday at Betty Lou Mays Field.
