The game was played just as passionately as any other, but the sense of something more important filled the Ferrell Center.
The No. 1 Lady Bears continued their dominance in a 71-44 victory. When Oklahoma State took the floor the Baylor fans gave them a standing ovation. In November the OSU head women’s basketball coach, as well as four others, were killed in a plane crash.
It seemed as if the Lady Bears could not find their rhythm in the first half, scoring only 26 points. The second half featured more penetration from the team in green, allowing not only junior Brittney to see the light but also the game behind the arch to become a factor.
“Oklahoma State played well, but that didn’t surprise me,” Mulkey said. “I thought they were gutsy.”
Griner led the way just two blocks short of a triple-double, recording 28 points and 11 boards.
Sophomore Odyssey Sims got in a bit of a rhythm in the second half, hitting three treys in the span of two minutes. She finished with 21 points.
Junior Destiny Williams quietly made her presence known with a double double of 11 points and 13 rebounds.
After the game both teams gathered at half court and prayed.
“We are blessed to play this game,” Mulkey said.
