What gives us the authority to decide what is “cringe”? We cannot possibly consider ourselves so important to be the all-knowing determiners of what is the norm. We’ve gotten so wrapped up in our perception of others that it’s warped our sense of self. The reason we joke, “to be cringe is to be free,” is simple — it gives us an excuse to be ourselves in a world that is often far too judgmental.
Browsing: whimsy
Your character always has a path to follow, sure. Maybe you have it all laid out on the map or the quest board, but what about everything off the beaten path? What about all the other locations? All the quests and secrets waiting to be discovered? The upgrades, cool loot and the experience points?
At its root, whimsy is not an aesthetic. True whimsy is older, deeper, stranger than that. It is the astonishment that we are here at all, alive, breathing, conscious, inside a universe that by all accounts should not have rolled the dice in our favor.
