Baylor baseball found its second win in a row on Wednesday after handling the UT-Arlington Mavericks 6-2 at Clay Gould Ballpark in Arlington. The Bears used a powerful start from the offense and stout pitching throughout the game.

In their first midweek game away from Baylor Ballpark, the No. 29 Baylor Bears could not overcome UT-Arlington’s hitting onslaught in a 14-3 shellacking Tuesday night. The Arlington Mavericks decimated Baylor’s pitching staff and broke the Bears’ five-game win streak against.

Baylor volleyball hosted the Baylor Classic tournament this weekend at the Ferrell Center in Waco. The Classic consisted of matches against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, UT-Arlington Mavericks and Mississippi State Bulldogs. The Bears finished with a record of 1-2, with a win against Mississippi State in their final game.

“The early part of the season has been a building process for us,” head volleyball coach Jim Barnes said. “When there are only one or two contributors returning, it’s hard to learn how to play together right away. There is a learning curve.”

The Baylor Bears defeated UT Arlington 6-4 Tuesday night at Clay Gould Ballpark to move to a season-high five games over .500 with a 25-20 overall record.

Freshman left-handed pitcher Sterling Wynn started on the mound for the Baylor Bears. Wynn has a 5.84 ERA this season and has a 0-1 record. This was only Wynn’s ninth appearance of the season and his eighth start of the season. Wynn has been battling a blister on his pitching hand that has kept him off the mound.

The Baylor Bears defeated UT Arlington on Tuesday night 14-4 at Baylor Ballpark. The win gives the Bears a winning record of 17-16.

Offensively, the Bears racked up 21 hits as a team and capitalized on a seven-run sixth inning to go on to win by the 10-run rule. The Bears were held scoreless before the offense suddenly caught fire in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings.

The 15th-ranked Baylor softball team won a road game against the UT Arlington Mavericks 5-2 Wednesday at Allan Saxe Field. The win brings the Bears to 26-5 overall. The Mavericks fall to 15-12 on the season.

Unlike the last couple of games, the No. 25 Baylor softball team had trouble generating offense after their dominant night on Thursday. Baylor continued the Texas Shootout in a double-header beginning with Sam Houston State and finished with UT Arlington. Baylor’s defense did their job forcing back-to-back shutouts, as the pitching stayed consistent to avoid losses. Baylor started slow in both games, but managed to have key hits, allowing them to score.

“Others receiving votes.” That’s where the Baylor baseball team was in the rankings to begin the season. A record of 35-7, including 24 straight wins, has changed the minds of voters around the country.

The No. 13 ranked men’s tennis team beat the rival No. 8 Texas Longhorns in Austin, 4-3, and made a major statement to not only the conference but the entire nation.

Baylor baseball continues its 14-game homestand as it battles Kansas State this weekend in the Bears’ second conference series of the season. Coach Steve Smith said he hopes to see more of what has brought the Bears to a 14-7 record.

After coming off a big week, there was some worry that the Baylor Lady Bears softball team might let up on the University of Texas at Arlington on Tuesday night.
