A cancer-fighting student organization is taking some time to celebrate a semester’s worth of crusading against the disease.

The Baylor chapter of Up ‘Til Dawn, which arranges on-campus fundraisers for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and promotes awareness of pediatric cancer, is playing host to The Big Event 6 p.m. Friday on Fountain Mall.

Delta Delta Delta hosted a race of 1,440 ducks — rubber ducks, that is — who swam to the finish line Wednesday at the Baylor Marina to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Sorority members sold $5 tickets for a rubber duck so that on the day of the race ticket-holders could match their ticket to the winning ducks.

Twenty-one can be a significant number to people. For some, it’s the legal drinking and gambling age. For others, particularly those involved in the military, there’s the 21-gun salute. This year, however, there’s the 21st celebration of Chilifest.

For most runners, 3 miles is nothing. What about a 3.24-mile race with water, fire and run-down trailers blocking your way? Yes, trailers. Now that’s a challenge.

Students hungry for a cause can attend the second annual Spaghetti Not-So-Formal dinner benefitting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in 510 Cashion Academic Center.

Baylor’s Theta Nu chapter of the Alpha Tau Omega national fraternity recently outshined 250 other chapters across the country to receive the Top Chapter award for 2010-2011.
