As golden hour took over, the powder-throwing began. Students wore white to preserve the multicolor splotches left by the powder residue and dashed around Fountain Mall trying to nab their friends with the dust, laughing and shrieking as they ran. The Holi powder covered clothes, skin, hair and even teeth. No one was safe from the colorful bombardment.

Students looking to embrace the great outdoors this semester can take advantage of a lineup of activities offered by Outdoor Adventure. From scenic hikes and camping trips to rock climbing and kayaking, the spring schedule promises opportunities for exploration, fitness and fun catering to all skill levels.

A lot of us may embrace and engage in the large prayer tent on Fountain Mall and various conversations surrounding the three-day Christianpalooza, also known as FM72. There is beauty in having a space for that on a college campus. However, this is one of numerous examples of public, almost performative, Christianity at Baylor.

While the spring Welcome Weekend might be less known than its fall counterpart, it’s a beneficial time for transfers and new students to become established at Baylor, said Dr. Nathan Shelburne, director of New Student Programs.

Even for a southern state that is warm year-round like Texas, such a phenomenon is atypical — at least it wasn’t seen in the last two winters, when the spring semesters would arrive in mid of cold winter air and icy temperatures.
