Baylor football was ranked No. 13 in the inaugural College Football Playoff poll released on Tuesday night. The Bears were one of five Big 12 teams ranked.

It’s the home stretch for Baylor baseball. This season has brought some ups and lot of downs for the Bears, but there is still a flame of hope burning for this ball club. At this point, the Bears have their eyes focused on just one goal, to qualify for the Big 12 tournament.

No. 12 Baylor and No. 13 Oklahoma met in a battle of Big 12 softball dominance over the weekend at Getterman Stadium. The Bears dropped the first two games of the series on Friday and Saturday, but earned a come-from-behind win Sunday to salvage a 2-1 series split.

After losing the first two games of the series in heartbreaking fashion, Baylor softball found themselves in desperate need a win to keep themselves alive in the Big 12 race. On Sunday afternoon, the Bears (30-9, 4-3) overcame a disruptive rain delay after the fourth to come back and win an 8-6 thriller at Getterman to give Oklahoma (32-9, 9-1) their first Big 12 loss of the season.

Leading off the second inning, junior third baseman Sarah Smith smashed a ball to left field that looked like it was gone; it fell just a few feet foul. Such was the day for Baylor softball in a disappointing 2-0 loss to drop the series to No. 13 Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon at Getterman Stadium.

Baylor started its 2013-14 campaign as one of the best teams in college basketball. Despite playing a difficult non-conference schedule that included four teams that were ranked at some point in non-conference play, Baylor emerged with a sturdy record of 12-1, including a convincing win over No. 3 Kentucky. Baylor’s only loss was to Syracuse, who is now the No. 2 team in the nation.

Playing in front of a blacked-out home crowd, Baylor found themselves down by seven with merely 29.8 seconds left. Two threes from sophomore center Isaiah Austin later and somehow, Baylor had a chance to win this game with 9.1 seconds left, down by only two points.

Junior goalie Michelle Kloss earned her ninth shutout of the season as the Baylor Bears defeated the Oklahoma State Cowgirls 1-0 in the final home game of the Bears’ regular season.

“It feels great to get a another shootout another win,” Kloss said. “I think the defense was absolutely amazing. They’re the ones who help with the shutout.”

This was Baylor’s first win since Sept. 27 when the squad beat Oklahoma at home 1-0.
