“What always resonated in my mind is what my father told me, and that is make sure that you focus on your goal, your objective, and that is to graduate and get out of there,” Baylor alumnus Michael Heiskell said. “Don’t be sidelined by others who may try to divert your attention or distract you from that purpose and goal.”

At Baylor, where students still juggle LSAT prep sessions and attend debate tournaments, the news lands differently. Anastasia Keeler, Austin senior and a political science major, doesn’t see the shift as liberation, but as a risk.

“As Baylor Lawyers, we have a professional obligation to serve those who cannot afford counsel,” Josh Borderud, director of clinical and pro bono programs and clinical lecturer, said. “Serving veterans, first responders, and children through our clinics is one of the ways that we give back to the Waco community.”
According to preLaw Magazine, the law school distinguishes itself for practical law training due to its practice court program that all Baylor Law students are required to take, as well as its effort to provide practical law training through various clinics and externships.
Baylor’s School of Law was again found to not be in compliance with the American Bar Association’s diverse and inclusive faculty requirement after being previously deemed not in compliance back in February 2022.
