It is an absolute privilege not to sympathize or empathize with homeless people. People in general, especially Baylor students, need to take it upon themselves to step out of that privilege, enter the real world and do as God commanded us: giving to those in need.

Just blocks from campus, Wacoans live without a place to stay, asking for money on the corner of every popular grease pit location. All the while, one of the state’s largest universities hasn’t done much to drive change.
“We know that housing alone will not solve homelessness, but we believe that community will,” Hinojosa said. “That is what is baked into our model.”
“I think Waco is so special and the fact that there are so many different mission organizations you can be a part of,” Biles said.”It requires work and sacrifice, but the rewards are eternal. We can help and love people better in small steps. Be interruptible and have a margin of allowing yourself the time to like let other people to come into your life and learn from them.”
Chip and Joanna Gaines hit television show “The Fixer Upper” created a brand for the city of Waco as the hosts revitalizing old, rundown houses. These houses are now unaffordable for the poor community.
Many issues the homeless community faces are overlooked. According to a study by the National Homelessness Law Center, 20% of the homeless nationwide suffer from untreated mental illnesses, and the leading cause of homelessness in women is domestic violence.

Project Homeless Connect will provide Waco’s homeless this Thursday with the opportunity to access different social services and resources from over 30 local organizations and nonprofits.
