Aging is a natural process — one that will happen to us all. It means that we’ve lived a full life, experiencing the highs and lows that come with it. Scars that tell either really silly or super cool stories. Smile lines that show we’ve enjoyed the time we have had. Aging is inevitable, but some spend hundreds of thousands of dollars every year to prevent it. Why do we still try to preserve something that we know is so fleeting?

A recent study found that Waco is among the top 10 emerging housing markets in the nation. This statistic isn’t surprising considering the area’s massive increase in popularity, likely due to a combination of Baylor and Magnolia. Growth can be a good thing, but it has presented a new issue for students: more expensive rent.

But alas, tickets sell out in minutes. I’m happy they do, but I truly have to contemplate if I’m able to “splurge” on the price of them. This year, they were upwards of $30 for students and the general public.

As Baylor undergraduates, we must feed ourselves, clothe ourselves, rent apartments and purchase textbooks. We pay dues for extracurricular activities, pay for parking decals, and gas up our vehicles all by ourselves…or with the loving assistance of our parents. Regardless, somebody’s pocket is taking a major hit. But as tuition and fees continue to increase, are we really reaping any benefits, or just paving the way for future debt to ensue?
