An independent investigation found credible allegations that Dr. David Pooler, a professor in Baylor’s Diana R. Garland School of Social Work, engaged in sexual misconduct and violated professional boundaries. The allegations involved survivors of adult clergy sexual abuse, the same population at the center of Pooler’s research and clinical work.

Though Dr. Jon Singletary stepped down as dean of the school of social work, he still spends his Thursday mornings supporting the students he once led.
Baylor announced Thursday that Dr. Jon Singletary, dean of the Diana R. Garland School of Social Work, will step down effective October 15. According to Provost Nancy Brickhouse, Singletary plans to return to the faculty to “focus on interdisciplinary research.”
“We started to look around and the faculty came up with the idea” Carter said. Baylor will expand its graduate offerings with two new master’s degrees.
Baylor University voluntarily rescinded a controversial grant that supported research focused on inclusion and belonging in the church, with a focus on LGBTQIA+ individuals, President Linda Livingstone announced in a statement Wednesday afternoon.
“Think of a population at risk, a population that’s vulnerable, a population that’s been marginalized — social workers are there,” Singletary said.
