Zoos get a pretty bad rap. For a place filled with furry friends and fantastical creatures, you’d expect the general sentiment toward them would be slightly positive, if not outright supportive.

Last August, Cameron Park Zoo got a lot colder as a storm of South African penguins swept into a new $12.8 million habitat. The 11 pairs of penguins have been one of the zoo’s most popular attractions. While their cuteness is a big money maker, the zoo’s main work with the penguins is through conservation.
The Baylor community gathered on Saturday at the Bill and Eva Williams Bear Habitat to celebrate the second birthday of Judge Indy and Judge Belle. The party featured special treats, interactive exhibits, a crowd of students, alumni and families eager to celebrate the bears.
Baylor’s chapter of Ducks Unlimited — a national nonprofit — aims to educate people on hunting and waterfowl in North America. To fulfill its mission of preserving wetlands for the waterfowl population, the group raises money for conservation efforts in Mexico, the United States and Canada.
