In classrooms across Baylor, an epidemic has gone silently unnoticed: a lack of motivation to learn. While this seems to be addressed in the conversation about literacy rates and artificial intelligence, it has yet to be discussed that students would rather do homework or respond to emails than sit attentively in class.

As Baylor’s spring semester starts settling in, Baylor students say their emotional well-being is based on two main forces: the strength of Baylor’s community and the pressure of academic demands.
I’ve spent years trying to find a faster way to learn the ins and outs of a class, but every time I try something else, I come back to writing everything out. No matter the subject matter or the type of class, writing things out helps me keep everything clear in my brain.
While Columbia was nice, Terrell said what sets Baylor apart is its students. His Christian faith allows him to build relationships with students to find their “sense of purpose.”
“Sometimes we don’t think about the fact that a lot of the earliest silent films were biblical adaptations, and that Bible Story movies were huge business in early Hollywood,” Sheldon said.
“I taught Amy Tan for years, but decided I needed to do better,” Hoffman said. “I needed to grow in my understanding of Asian American literature, and so I began a journey of reading and teaching other texts.”
Two Baylor professors co-teach a class in civil discourse, and where their teaching styles differ, they come together in a shared love of mentoring freshmen and building relationships as they go through their four years. One of those freshmen is Anna Corey — their daughter.
I understand you’re probably tired at 8 a.m. and would rather scroll on Instagram than talk to the person next to you, but the effort is so worth it.
I promise if you make connections and keep breaking the ice with your classmates your class will be much more enjoyable and your life will be easier.
One student’s bad experience is not the experience of all students, and I think that’s important to remember when reading those reviews.
