Childers spent 26 years working in government law enforcement, 18 of which were with the US Secret Service. After eight years as a US Marshal, Childers took up various roles in the Service. He spent time on President George W Bush’s detail, investigated white-collar crimes in Washington, D.C., and supervised President Bush’s ranch in Crawford. And just before joining Baylor, Childers was prepared to accept another new position.

“The safety of our staff members is truly at the top of our priority list, and that includes those who is here with us temporarily,” Warren said. “We’re treating this as the beginning of a long-term relationship, so we want to be able to hire [Baylor students] into those roles where [they’re] currently interning.

When it comes to staying safe on campus, it’s helpful to know Baylor has a number of measures in place to make sure students stay informed and safe at all hours of the day.

Brandon Martin, CL&L zone/project manager at Aramark Higher Education, said an important factor in determining the safety of a college campus said is how well-lit the campus is at night.

Safety has gone mobile. Just when we thought the smartphone could do it all, yet another function has been added to its diverse repertoire: security guard.

Thanks to the newly available BlueLight Mobile App, Baylor students no longer have to feel nervous about early morning walks to campus, late night walks from Moody Memorial Library, or middle-of-the-day runs around the Bear Trail.

“Baylor has been enabled on our mobile app called BlueLight,” said Preet Anand, founder of the BlueLight Mobile App. “Students wanted the app so that they would feel safer around Baylor’s campus and that it would give them a quick way to get help.”
