The 2024 Baylor Giving Day raised more than $2.24 million from the Baylor Family on Tuesday to fund academic initiatives and student scholarships. Toby Barnett, associate vice president and campaign director for the Office of Advancement, said the Office of Advancement routinely works with alumni and parents, but anyone can be a donor.

Former Baylor student Dolores Lozano took the stand Tuesday to detail three alleged incidents of physical assault by her ex-boyfriend, former Baylor football player Devin Chafin. More than nine years later, she said she still suffers from PTSD, depression and anxiety related to the domestic violence.

A settlement was reached Monday in the Title IX lawsuit involving 15 women against Baylor University. After a legal process that took more than seven years, the case was settled during a mediation ordered by the court, occurring from May 9 to Sept. 15 in Austin. The details of the settlement remain confidential.

According to its website, Baylor’s McNair Scholars Program aims to prepare low-income, first-generation and other underrepresented students to successfully navigate a path to a doctoral program following graduation. It prepares undergraduate students for the rigors of doctoral studies through immersion in research and a variety of scholarly activities.

On Thursday, Baylor hosted a walkthrough of the construction site to share the progress of the building, which Baylor spokesperson Lori Fogleman said is anticipated to open before the fall 2023 semester. Members of the Board of Regents also ceremoniously signed a steel beam, beginning with Paula Hurd, a regent who — along with her late husband Mark — gave a gift to Baylor’s Give Light campaign in 2018 that was used to fund the Welcome Center.

The Baylor University Board of Regents voted to approve a new Ph.D. program in entrepreneurship at its annual meeting today in Waco, effective in Fall 2016. The program will become only the seventh such doctoral program accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

On Saturday some of the best high school piano talent will perform on campus.

The Baylor/Waco Piano Competition will be held from 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. in the Glennis McCrary Music Building and Waco Hall. This year’s event will be the 34th annual competition, and it is sponsored by the School of Music.
