It is important to destigmatize mental health, and there is power in conversation. However, accepting the existence and impact of mental illness should not mean taking it less seriously — and self-diagnosing does just that.

Dean of Student Health and Wellness Jim Marsh said that in the 2018-19 academic year, the counseling center saw 2,400 students. This number declined during the pandemic and since, the counseling center worked toward an efficient and realistic solution to help students despite social distancing and health precautions, resulting in the Telehealth service.

Students once had to wait up to a week or more to receive their first appointment at the Baylor Counseling Center. As of January, the Counseling Center, located in the McLane Student Life Center, has begun offering a walk-in clinic for initial assessments Mondays through Thursdays.

Zombies exist. At least, in the form of sleep-deprived college students.

As part of an outreach by the Baylor Counseling Center, six zombies will appear Wednesday in various locations in the Moody Memorial Library to raise awareness of sleep deprivation. The zombies are students from the theater arts department.
