Hundreds of hours. Thousands of minutes invested into one flawless routine that brought the Songleaders to victory at nationals in Orlando, Fla. This year, the Baylor dance team was in the D1 large category, which is based on university size.
Wonders of Waco, a cohort of 11 small businesses, debuted Tuesday afternoon during Dr Pepper Hour, and behind it is a push to solve a disconnect between the Waco community and Baylor students.
Several students’ responses to the events reveal a disconnect between institutional attention and student interest, a disconnect that may negatively affect other events across campus.
Everyone loves to have an opinion on Greek life during Homecoming, Sing and parties, but when it comes time to raise money for a good cause, the attention subsides. I want to encourage more students and faculty to participate in and donate to philanthropies when Greek organizations hold public events.

Waco’s Owens-Illinois glass plant plans to stop production on Oct. 16 and will ultimately close its doors in December. It has not been announced what will be done about the employees of the facility.
The Humane Society of Central Texas has nearly 200 dogs waiting to be fostered and provides resources to set foster applicants up for success. Brooke Farrell, the Humane Society’s director of development and public relations, said that while foster parents may only be taking one dog under their wing, they are doing an act of service for other dogs at the shelter by decreasing the number on the at-risk list and freeing up a crate.
The Baylor School of Music is relaunching Oso Musical this semester after it was shut down in 2021 due to pandemic-related health concerns. The volunteer-based program allows Baylor students to lead free music classes for K-12 children with disabilities in Waco.
The Central Texas Cyber Range hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday to mark the start of the multimillion-dollar center’s partnership with Baylor and McLennan Community College to provide research and training for cybersecurity.

“Since July 1st, Baylor’s campus has had nine positives out of 48 tests,” Stern said. “And in the last month alone, we have had seven positives out of 29 tests, which is almost a 25% positivity rate.”

Texas voters turned out in historic numbers Tuesday, delivering victories for State Rep. James Talarico and forcing a runoff between Attorney General Ken Paxton and incumbent Sen. John Cornyn in the state’s U.S. Senate contest that claimed national attention. The total early-voting turnout of more than 2.5 million marks the highest ever for a midterm primary election. The results also kicked off the 2026 midterm cycle.
