The history of the American Revolution is still segregated, Johnson said. If you search for photos of the American Revolution on the internet, photos of white men and women appear, but there are no black individuals pictured. The images that appear aren’t wrong, but they are incomplete, Johnson argued.
First-generation Texans now ask themselves, what does it mean to be an American whose roots sprouted up somewhere thousands of miles away, and what does it mean to put down new roots during a time when border control and deportation are among the new administration’s top priorities?
“The number one thing is, be informed and know your rights,” Alvarado said. “Don’t believe everything you see on social media –– a lot of people trying to do good end up spreading false rumors, and that just spreads fear in the community.”

“Since July 1st, Baylor’s campus has had nine positives out of 48 tests,” Stern said. “And in the last month alone, we have had seven positives out of 29 tests, which is almost a 25% positivity rate.”
