Students gathered for Lu’au 2026, an annual celebration hosted by the Baylor Hawaii Club, in the SUB Barfield Drawing Room Friday evening. Despite the event’s sudden rearrangements due to the weather, attendees enjoyed a night of Hawaiian food and performances with a Texan twist.

As Turning Point USA’s “This is the Turning Point” tour meets in Waco Hall April 22, another group will meet a few doors down for “All Are Neighbors,” an alternative option for students.

With no clouds in the sky, Wacoans and nearby Texans happily waltzed to the event as the festivities began. Some of the attendees knew to show up early to grab a good spot, including a group of retirees.
“The suspension bridge and the Indian Spring Park area, has long been one of our traditional areas for community events,” Cook said. “People are excited to finally have the bridge back open and have this again as one of our gathering spots to come together.”
On April 17, 2013, the West Fertilizer Plant was holding 40 to 60 tons of ammonium nitrate and exploded with the force of 20,000 tons of TNT. The blast caused houses in the surrounding areas to be completely destroyed, along with a nursing home and a school.
Rumors spread on social media that same afternoon that someone had pulled a gun around the apartment complex, to which Waco PD spokesperson Cierra shipley said via email no weapon was located at the time of the arrest. The initial reason for the first 911 call to the apartment complex is currently unknown.
