Dr. Roger Kirk, who died in December 2023, served at Baylor from 1958 until his retirement in 2019. An emeritus distinguished professor of psychology and statistics, he taught a variety of classes — ranging from dance to statistics — and supervised over 20 Ph.D. students in his 61 years at the university.
Construction on the portion of University Parks Drive that lies beneath Interstate 35 has cut off power to emergency call towers near Baylor Law School. Even with an occasional blue light tower outage, there are 23 campus safety programs already in effect.
Baylor’s Center for Global Engagement houses a variety of programs, including International Student and Scholar Services, study abroad and Global Gateway. Each department offers services that are uniquely catered to students’ needs and interests.
The Bill and Eva Williams Bear Habitat, home to campus cubs Judge Indy and Judge Belle, will celebrate the bears’ first birthdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Attendees will have the chance to visit Indy and Belle while partaking in a variety of activities for students and families.

The Iran war is now in its 46th day. Iran responded by restricting access to Hormuz, which carries about a fifth of the world’s seaborne oil, and moving to toll vessels transiting the strait. Waco drivers are already feeling it. The local average hit $3.38 a gallon last week, up 21 cents in seven days and 75 cents year-over-year, according to AAA data.
Gas prices in Texas have surged more than 70 cents per gallon since the U.S. went to war with Iran three weeks ago. The near-total shutdown of the Strait of Hormuz has driven oil prices up more than 40%, pushing the national average to its highest point since 2023 and sending diesel past $5 for the first time in three years.
The largest U.S. military operation in the Middle East in decades unfolded as American and Israeli forces struck Iran Saturday, killing its supreme leader and triggering retaliatory strikes from the Gulf to Israel. The White House said the campaign is aimed at dismantling Iran’s military and toppling its government.
