Most fraternities and sororities participate in national philanthropic efforts, but the brothers of Alpha Tau Omega are bringing it a little closer to home. As part of Viking Week, which is named after the fraternity’s mascot, Alpha Tau Omega will host a variety of fundraising events next week benefiting CoHOPE — an international nonprofit named after Coho Menk, who died in 2017.
Baylor in Washington is in full swing this semester as students pursue diverse opportunities related to their career paths, both in and out of the classroom. The semester-long program provides students with the opportunity to live in Washington and gain professional development through an internship.

Ten mail processing centers in Texas are among 252 nationwide that will close in a $3 billion money-saving move by the government.
The Historic Waco Foundation has many holiday events lined up this year, and are asking all who want to “share the spirit of the season” to attend. Annually, the foundation puts together an annual Christmas parade, as well as hosts the Christmas on the Brazos decorated house museum tours.
Baylor and Waco police are still investigating an armed robbery that occurred before Thanksgiving break, at around 7 a.m. Nov. 21 at the Baylor Arms Apartments, located at 1500 S. Ninth St.
Thanksgiving didn’t look much different for the Wachsmann family this year but they were able to enjoy the holiday without worrying about where 3-year-old Jacob would be next year.

Tensions continued to grow over the summer between political adversaries as Texas state Sen. James Talarico called on Attorney General Ken Paxton to release internal records related to a controversial child sexual abuse case involving former Waco attorney and Baylor Law graduate Adam Hoffman.

The Iran war is now in its 46th day. Iran responded by restricting access to Hormuz, which carries about a fifth of the world’s seaborne oil, and moving to toll vessels transiting the strait. Waco drivers are already feeling it. The local average hit $3.38 a gallon last week, up 21 cents in seven days and 75 cents year-over-year, according to AAA data.
Gas prices in Texas have surged more than 70 cents per gallon since the U.S. went to war with Iran three weeks ago. The near-total shutdown of the Strait of Hormuz has driven oil prices up more than 40%, pushing the national average to its highest point since 2023 and sending diesel past $5 for the first time in three years.
