“Airlines are going to be more prepared the next time the government shuts down and makes these types of reduction demands,” Joel Martinez, aviation sciences adjunct professor and former director of aviation for the City of Waco, said. “The airlines are going to have a response plan set up or establish a reduction to certain communities.”
While the U.S. was wrapping up its own governmental crisis at home, world leaders prepared to take the stage at the annual United Nations Climate Change Conference. America, China and India chose not to send formal delegates to the conference this year, a controversial move as three of the world’s largest polluters.
Whether it’s eating turkey in the U.S., lighting lanterns on campus, watching a harvest parade in Germany or cooking yams in Ghana, communities near and far celebrate their harvest and community throughout the fall season.
“We want as many students as possible to be able to engage in meaningful service,” Sarah Walker, senior coordinator for service at Baylor Spiritual Life, said. “It’s a very tangible way of living out your faith.”

Incumbent Republican Judge Thomas West, 59, faces off against Barry Johnson, 68, who became a Democrat in December 2023 before filing for election. Despite its name, the Railroad Commission actually has nothing to do with railroad regulations anymore. The “Be Safe. Drive Smart” initiative aims to combat the growing number of pedestrian deaths and injuries on Texas roadways, particularly as National Pedestrian Safety Month approaches.

Ramsey is a sophomore from Waco studying economics and international studies in Arabic. Ramsey went to Amman, Jordan, with Qasid, an Arabic Institute Program running from June through August. But she didn’t suspect the challenges and conflicts that would occur in the coming days.
Although the war seems like it could be worlds away, it impacts Baylor students in a more personal way than most generally assume — particularly in the grocery store runs, Stolze said.
“Any kind of medical volunteering is very highly considered by medical schools, especially if you’re investing so much time,” Selkin said. “A week may not seem like a long time, but you are investing a week of your summer to go to a foreign country, probably somewhere that you’ve never been before, maybe a language that you don’t speak. That is a great chance to talk about cultural immersion and diversity. It’s a great opportunity to expand not only what you know but to see what else is out there.”
