The south end of 10th Street flooded with people celebrating the national championship win Monday night as the Waco police department and the fire department supervised the masses from afar.
Fuentes has been to every men’s basketball home game since 1999 and often makes trips to away games as well. He can usually be spotted behind the opposing team’s bench wearing a Baylor jersey with a hat and shooting sleeve, yelling his unique form of trash talk that’s hard to dispute.
“We’re going to win the national championship,” Vital said. “I’m not saying we might. We’re going to win a national championship.”
On Baylor’s bench, one can find three-point sharpshooters, high-flying dunkers and tenacious defenders.
Baylor is one of the few teams that can match Gonzaga’s depth, but unless a COVID-19 scare or injuries plague the No. 1 team in the country, I think Gonzaga finishes the season undefeated with an overtime win.
Baylor has a long, storied history of dominant post players who have all made their mark on Baylor history in their time in Waco. NaLyssa Smith has been no different.
