Local and federal authorities offered to help secure Dallas-area bus and train stations Wednesday after a shootout on a platform in Richardson left two people dead, the latest in a string of violent incidents on Dallas mass transit, an agency spokesman said.

Baylor will host Waco’s 2012 Muscular Dystrophy Association Muscle Walk at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Baylor Allison Indoor Football Practice Facility, part of the Dorothy Highers Athletic Complex on University Parks Dr.

Tonight at 8 p.m., KWBU-FM will broadcast the last pre-recorded public forum on the potential school closings in the Waco Independent School District. Forums were held Jan. 5-12 to garner community feedback on the potential closures, which are because of an anticipated $3.4 million loss in state revenue. The school district is looking to combat the budget shortfall and save money by closing down schools that are under-capacity, according to wacoisd.org.

The Historic Waco Foundation has many holiday events lined up this year, and are asking all who want to “share the spirit of the season” to attend. Annually, the foundation puts together an annual Christmas parade, as well as hosts the Christmas on the Brazos decorated house museum tours.

Baylor has more than 15 official student organizations dedicated specifically to service, numerous fraternities and sororities that require members to volunteer, and various other opportunities for students to get out into the community and lend a helping hand. However, not all students choose to actively volunteer in the community.

Campus Kitchen, an organization that gathers excess food from on-campus dining halls and provides meals to people in the Waco community, is collecting Thanksgiving dinner donations for this year’s Turkeypalooza.
