Jonathon S. Platt Contributor Judge Ken Starr said he didn’t sleep much last night. In fact, he hasn’t slept much at all lately. What’s different about today though, Starr said Wednesday afternoon, is that he has found “a sense of inner peace.” After consulting scripture, seeking counsel from trusted advisors and “spending a good deal of time” reading emails of both concern and support, Starr’s conviction to offer greater transparency led him to a decision. He chose to step down as chancellor of Baylor University. “I have called — from day one — for transparency,” Starr said. “And I reached…
Last Monday’s viral videos of a South Carolina school police officer using force on a black female student violently spread among the growing number of video clips alleging police brutality and aggression. Two videos from the classroom at Spring Valley High School show Richland County Deputy Ben Fields grabbing the student, pulling her to the ground backwards and yanking her out of the desk. The encounter happened after multiple attempts by the teacher, school guidance counselor and an administrator asking her to leave the classroom for her disruptive, obstinate behavior. In the video, students sit distraught and silent around her…
By Trey Gregory, Assistant City Editor Injuries are the worst part of football. There is sure to be some sort of injury every week of the season in what seems like every game. This is just the reality of football. It is a physical sport with giant humans colliding into each other. Injuries always have, and always will happen However, those who watched the NFL games this Sunday might have wondered if the NFL is experiencing more injuries than normal this season. There were certainly many good reasons to think so. The San Diego Chargers had 12 players who were injured…
Good offenses or terrible defenses, best team not leading its division, biggest injury loss from the weekend.
Recently the Lariat ran an editorial about Fall Break suggesting it was too short. We took it to the streets of campus to see what students around Baylor thought!

One of the most heartbreaking things to hear as a church-going Christian is that someone has been hurt by the church. When I hear that, I feel the need to apologize immediately, even if the person is talking about a church 500 miles away that I have never heard of. The reality is, church isn’t perfect. I think both Christians and non-Christians alike need to remember that humans are flawed. It pains me to admit it, but I have recently realized that I am not always a part of the solution myself. I put my walls up and I put…

I am writing to express my admiration of your story “Wacoans Express Frustration Toward Students” [published September 15]. Bonnie Kemf’s statement will be considered controversial in a community that thrives due to the increasing enrollment of college students studying at Baylor University; the very group she attacks, but her portrayal of selfish students who blatantly disregard the social norms of neighborly actions may spur some to self-awareness, if not positive action. My admiration is not only of Ms. Kemf’s outspoken tirade, but also for your impartiality in publishing her opinion. The Lariat is clearly supported by Baylor’s student body, so…
