The Baylor Line also made an appearance at the Texas Bowl, which was the first bowl game ever to have the students run out on the field before kickoff. Sophomore quarterback Charlie Brewer passed for 384 yards and led the team in…
By Bailey Brammer | Broadcast Managing Editor Vanderbilt currently leads Baylor 21-17 at halftime in the Academy Sports + Outdoors Texas Bowl in Houston. The Bears’ defense struggled against the Commodores’ big plays, but sophomore quarterback Charlie Brewer threw 11-15, connecting with six receivers for 153 passing yards and led Baylor’s rushing yards with 51. Baylor takes on Vanderbilt minus leading senior wide receiver Jalen Hurd, who underwent knee surgery in early December, as well as two-time All-Big 12 senior punter Drew Galitz, who tore his ACL before the Texas Tech game on Nov. 24. The Commodores took an early…
By Bailey Brammer | Broadcast Managing EditorThe Bears are all set to go bowling on Dec. 27 in Houston where they will take on the Vanderbilt Commodores in the Texas Bowl. Both teams went 6-6 on the season and neither team has made a bowl game appearance since 2016. The Commodores are led by head coach Derek Mason and finished sixth overall in the SEC-East, winning three of their last four games on the road to the bowl. “They had to win their last two games to be bowl eligible,” said Baylor head coach Matt Rhule. “They went out and…

By Bailey Brammer | Broadcast Managing Editor In our generation of texting, Snapchat and Twitter, the art of phone etiquette is often overlooked. Not many people know how to engage in a phone conversation to begin with, but even fewer people also realize how far a polite exchange can go in the professional world.I was recently in a car accident where my car was ruled a total loss. After the crash, I was thrown into a chaotic mess of emotional trauma, physical pain and endless phone calls. In the first week after the accident, I felt like I spent every…
Story by Bailey Brammer | Broadcast Managing Editor, Video by Julia Lawrenz | Broadcast ReporterFor more than 40 years, award-winning filmmaker and documentarian Ken Burns has explored defining historical moments and subjects such as the American Civil War, baseball and jazz music, among many others. Burns spoke to Baylor students, faculty, staff and Waco community members on Monday afternoon in Waco Hall about the importance of American history, as well as the overarching questions that have popped up in each of his films: “Who are we? Where did we come from? What have we become? Where are we going?” The…
By Bailey Brammer | Broadcast Managing EditorParking problems at Baylor are almost as numerous as women wearing oversized T-shirts and Nike shorts … almost. Whether you’re playing “Parking Spot Roulette” and seeing how long you can stay in that faculty spot before Baylor Parking Services tracks you down, or you’re swerving sharply to the right to avoid being hit by that monster truck backing into a compact spot, everyone with a car is bound to run into a parking issue every so often. Recently, though, I’ve found that my parking struggles have shifted to simply not being able to find…
By Bailey Brammer | Broadcast Managing EditorIt can, and has been argued that home is both a place and a feeling. Typically, a house or building represents the physical location we call “home,” and the memories we associate with that place elicit our feelings. Most of the time, though, we typically spend time in a place before we christen it with the title “home.”This summer, I embarked on the popular Baylor experience of studying abroad. I spent just under six weeks exploring Budapest –– trying new foods, learning new languages and even perfecting the art of public transportation. However, while…
By Bailey Brammer | Editor-in-Chief Before I begin my rant about how unnecessary season 7 is to the “New Girl” canon, let me first start by saying I’m a big fan of the series. I’ve laughed aloud at every “Cece and Winston mess-around,” I’ve cheered Nick and Jess on since their first kiss during season one, and I’ve casually adopted Schmidt’s habit of abbreviating words when I’m excited. This show has been the ideal sit-com, but all good things must come to an end. Unfortunately, “New Girl” is no exception. Every successful comedy show that follows a group of friends…
By Bailey Brammer | Editor-in-Chief By attending Baylor, students have the chance to experience traditions and practices unique to the campus and the community. Only after graduation do students have the special opportunity to teach at the King’s School in Bangkok. Kathryn Mueller, senior lecturer in the sociology department, began the Baylor Teach in Thailand program more than 25 years ago. After receiving permission from the royal family to bring recent graduates to the Chitralada Palace School to teach English, Mueller has built the program from two initial spots to eight positions for Baylor graduates only. This year’s group leaves…
By Bailey Brammer | Editor-in-ChiefActing as a quick glimpse into what next season’s football team will look like, Baylor’s annual Green & Gold game on Saturday aimed to showcase the effort head coach Matt Rhule’s young men have been putting in during the off-season.”[I’m] proud of the team this winter and this spring. They worked tremendously hard and I’m excited about where we are,” Rhule said. “I’m anxious to get the freshmen here, [and] finish school out strong.”Team Sic ‘Em defeated Team BU 14-13 in overtime, and both teams consisted of a mixture of Baylor offense and defense. Some players…

In his most recent flick, “A Quiet Place,” fans of the “Office” star can witness Krasinksi and his family struggle to survive in an almost too-close-for-comfort dystopian future plagued by monsters that hunt by sound. If the creatures hear you, they will hunt you, and they are all but impossible to stop. The film, which hit theaters April 6, has since received a 96 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and was dubbed the “No.1 Movie in America” for two weeks. The premise of the movie itself is…

Ten on-campus organizations competed in the step show, and Alpha Delta Pi’s act took home first place with its “Evil Queen” theme. Second place went to Chi Omega with their take on “Alice in Wonderland,” and third place went…
By Bailey Brammer | Editor-in-ChiefA sudden drop in weather across Central Texas seemingly had no effect on the Baylor track & field team on Saturday, as the Bears ended their first home invitational of the season with six event titles and even more top-eight finishes. Baylor hosted 13 other schools on Saturday in the 2018 Baylor Invitational at Clyde Hart Stadium. Despite the temperature dropping below the 40 degree mark, head coach Todd Harbour said the weather was not an excuse to perform poorly, and that his athletes simply had an additional hurdle to overcome. “Earlier in the week, we…
By Bailey Brammer | Editor-in-ChiefDallas junior Hannah Causey, a candidate for student body president, was found not guilty of breaking the electoral code after an Electoral Commission hearing on Wednesday. The hearing was called after a complaint was raised by another candidate, Huxley, Iowa, junior Austin Allaire.Houston senior Chelsea Teague, electoral commissioner, presided over the Commission and said they found Causey not guilty and had no reason to penalize her.”The decision of the Commission is clear,” Causey said. “There was no violation and I haven’t tried to gain any unfair advantage. Instead of speaking to us about it, Allaire wrote…
By Bailey Brammer | Editor-in-ChiefAlthough the media often portrays people who have eating disorders as women who are extremely thin, both women and men of all shapes, sizes and weights can struggle with eating disorders or other food-related conditions. Baylor is one of the few schools in the country that is equipped with an eating disorder specialist on campus. The addition of this position, as well as others, was part of the $5 million plan to expand Baylor’s Title IX Office, Counseling Center and Department of Public Safety in 2016. “We looked at other schools across the country that were…
By Bailey Brammer | Editor-in-ChiefAfter a year of exceptional filmmaking, Oscar night is nearly upon us. Comedian Jimmy Kimmel will take the stage Sunday evening as host of the 90th Academy Awards, as will many well-known and decorated actors, actresses, directors, producers, composers and other individuals involved in some of the best movies the world has seen. While the Academy certainly has some difficult decisions ahead, with no clear front-runners in any category, I’ve done my best to sort through the nominations, as well as analyze previous winners and I’ve compiled my predictions as to who will take home awards…

By Bailey Brammer | Editor-in-Chief”For they are the we of us.” Almost all Baylor students are familiar with this saying and its connection to the school’s history; on Jan. 22, 1927, 22 young men made their way to the University of Texas in a bus for a basketball game, and 10 of those students lost their lives in a bus-train collision. The inclusion of Mass Meeting in Baylor’s homecoming schedule, as well as the annual Immortal Ten basketball game and the memorial statue in Traditions Square, certainly do a good job reminding the campus of the significance of this tragedy.…
