Lack of information shouldn’t be an excuse for anyone who fails to keep their New Year’s Resolutions this semester. The 2015 Fit Well Expo will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. this Saturday in the Barfield Drawing Room at the Bill Daniel Student Center.

The Fit Well Expo is a one-day event designed to provide participants with fitness, wellness and nutrition information through various speakers and presentations, according to its website.

The first 100 students to sign up for the expo will get free admission, with lunch included. They will not receive a t-shirt, but can order one during the expo. The cost is $7 for students after the first 100 and $10 for faculty and staff. Interested individuals can register by noon Friday at the Student Life Center Service Desk.

Van Davis, the assistant director for fitness and nutrition education, said she wanted to begin the program early to assist those with fitness resolutions for the new year.

Students and faculty with a health-related New Year’s resolution attending the expo will hear a variety of speakers who can help them achieve their goals, David said.

“We have some great researchers that will be presenting,” Davis said. “To have information from a researcher who just did the studies and can tell us right away what supplements work is so invaluable.”

Presentations include “Be Well in 2015” from Wellness Director Megan Patterson,“Nutrition for Healthy Living” from Registered Dietician Jill Hamilton, “Gender Differences of Resistance Training” from Fitness Specialist Andreas Stamatis and “Novel Nutritional Supplements for Increasing Muscle Mass” from Darryn Willoughby, the director of the exercise and biochemical nutrition laboratory.

“People are just starting their workout programs now, and in order to make sure that it’s safe, injury-free and that they get all the information before they dive into starting a program, I think the expo is something that’s going to help our students tremendously,” Davis said. “I’m excited to hear what the presenters have to say and be able to provide this information to our students.”

This semester, the Student Life Center is offering over 50 Group X classes. The first week of classes, which start next Tuesday, Jan. 20, is free. There will also be a six-week TRX resistance training program, which begins Jan. 26, and a six-week live active challenge beginning on the same day, which students can participate in to earn prizes and keep fit.

Students and faculty who are interested in taking advantage of the exercise programs offered at the Student Life Center can visit www.baylor.edu/campusrec/fitness.
