For the first time in program history, the Baylor soccer team has won an NCAA tournament game. In the first-round game against the Texas State Bobcats (14-6-1), The Bears (15-3-3) were victorious, 3-0 Friday night at Betty Lou Mays Field.

The Bears outshot the Bobcats 15-2 in the game. None of the Bobcats’ shots were on goal.

Lisa Sliwinski got the scoring started in the twenty-fourth minute on one-on-one with a Bobcat defender from 27 yards out. Vic Hoffman had the assist.

In the 58th minute, Hanna Gilmore found the net off an assist from Dana Larsen.

Larsen scored the final goal of the night from three yards out. It was her team-leading 11th goal of the season.

“I think they came out so strong,” head coach Marci Jobson said. “They came out like professionals. They came out with an edge. That’s what we talked about in the Big 12 tournament. Tonight, they had their edge. They played on fire. They did great.”

The Bears won in front of the second largest crowd of the season, as 951 fans packed the stands at Betty Lou Mays Field. The Bears made the tournament in 1997 and 1999 and failed to get out of the first round both times.
