For the first time in program history, the Baylor soccer team has won an NCAA tournament game. In the first-round game against the Texas State Bobcats (14-6-1), The Bears (15-3-3) were victorious, 3-0 Friday night at Betty Lou Mays Field.

The Bears outscored their opponents 8-1 this weekend at Betty Lou Mays Field. Baylor defeated the Missouri Tigers on Friday 3-1 and was victorious again over the Jackson State Tigers, 5-0, on Sunday afternoon. Friday’s win was due in part to a fiery start to the game and Sunday’s victory was sealed in a dominant second half.

Coming off a historically successful weekend for Baylor soccer, the team looks to repeat its recent victories. This past weekend, the Bears surged past two Big 12 teams, Kansas and Iowa State, both on the road. This weekend the Bears will face Missouri at 7 p.m. Friday at home and will play host again for Jackson State at 1 p.m. Sunday.

In a game where there figures to be some bad blood, the Bears (9-2-1) will host the Texas Tech Red Raiders (7-3-1) at 7 p.m. today at Betty Lou Mays Field. The Bears are eager to play the Red Raiders, as memories from the day they played Texas Tech in Lubbock last year loom.

With two goals and two assists this season, sophomore midfielder Karlee Summey has taken full advantage of the chance she has been given. Summey has appeared in all 12 games for the Bears and had the game-winning goal 45 seconds into overtime Sunday against Weber State.

The Baylor soccer team is off to its best start since the 1996 inaugural season, when it raced out to a 10-1-1 start.
