Miami freshman Joaquin Otero saw an Instagram reel about a collegiate Roblox Club and decided that Baylor needed one as well.
Roblox is a gaming platform that was launched in 2006. Now Roblox is one of the most globally used online applications reaching roughly 123 million daily active users.
Although it is not an official club yet, Otero has already been contacted by the National Association of Roblox about Baylor Roblox joining their association.
“I am being guided by every school that has a Roblox Club,” Otero said. “Harvard, Tulane, Brown and many other Texas universities. This support has helped make the process of creating a club easier.”
Otero wants the Baylor Roblox community to be a place where students can make new friends.
“The best way to have a fun time in a place is with the people who surround you,” Otero said. “By finding people who like Roblox, students can establish new friendships with others who also enjoy Roblox. I think that every college should have a Roblox Club because of the connections it can give students.”
The Roblox Club will be a great way for students to engage with their peers after a long day of classes.
“It is not a serious club,” Otero said. “It is meant to be lighthearted. I want students to have a good time with Roblox games.”
On the club Instagram, Otero posted a survey asking students to give input as to what games they would like to play first.
“Out of 24 responses, the top two Roblox games that most people are interested in playing are Murder Mystery and 99 Nights in the Forest,” Otero said. “I set up the survey so that I could know what students would want to play.”
Otero wants students to consider joining the Roblox Club for the joy of being around their classmates.
“If [students] want to chuckle for at least three seconds, then they should join this club because I guarantee they will laugh,” Otero said. “Well I guess I can’t guarantee, but I feel like Roblox is a fun way to bring people together. Roblox is life.”
Adam Stanley, head coach and director of Baylor Esports, is interested in the idea of taking on the Roblox Club in addition to the Esports.
“I am here to help build gaming culture because of the benefits that it provides to students,” Stanley said. “I am willing to figure out the best fit for the Roblox Club.”
Stanley said Roblox is one of the most customizable games, making it ideal for students.
“It engages the creative part of their brain,” Stanley said. “In the third century B.C., Aristotle said the gymnasium was a critical part of education because that’s where students gathered. They are practicing virtues of temperance and fortitude and all sorts of things inside this manufactured arena. In 2026, one could argue that students are meeting in a digital arena.”
Mercedes freshman Hailey Davis wants to join the Roblox Club because she loves to play Roblox in her spare time.
“Me and my friend would play horror games on Roblox,” Davis said. “When I was little, I also played the pizza place game with my siblings. I think that playing Roblox with my new friends at Baylor would be the best thing ever.”
