Check CAE credits off your to-do list

Whether you’re an upcoming freshman with no prior experience with CAE credits or a rising senior frantically attempting to fulfill the requirements before graduation, there is no shortage of opportunities from all across the board to either get a headstart or cap off your CAE journey before walking the stage!

A wide variety of different departments at Baylor such as theater, music, language, art, and even film provide CAEs. All students currently in the College of Arts and Sciences must attend at least 12 events throughout the entirety of their college career, and attend at least two from each category.

If this number seems daunting to you, especially as a senior, there is nothing to be worried about. So, if you need to make up for some lost time in the realm of CAE credits, here are some of the best opportunities to do so this fall semester.

To kick off the Fall 2024 schedule, Baylor Theatre opens with a play called “The Grown-ups,” a dark comedy all about growing up and how scary change can be (very relatable for college seniors). “The Grown-ups” will run from Sept. 18-21 with an additional performance on Sept. 22.

Next up for Baylor Theatre, and what I am personally the most excited for, is their production of “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,” with performances on Oct. 2-5, Oct. 6, Oct. 16-19 and finally Oct. 20. This is a bloody fun musical full of murder, romance and revenge with plenty of opportunities to see it throughout the Halloween season.

While the Baylor School of Music has a plethora of concerts and recitals scheduled for this fall, the two I would personally recommend the most would be the Baylor Jazz Ensemble Swing concert and the Homecoming Carillon Recital. The Baylor Jazz Ensemble Swing concert takes place on Thursday, Sept. 12 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Baylor Jazz has always been my personal favorite to watch. The Homecoming Recital takes place on Oct. 24 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Pat Neff Hall. What better way to celebrate Homecoming while also receiving CAE credit?

For more cultural and interactive experiences, different language and cultural departments and clubs at Baylor host a variety of events ranging from cultural cooking to watching foreign films all throughout the semester. Be sure to keep an eye on the BaylorConnect website and an ear open, as your language and culture professors will likely keep you in the loop about related events and opportunities!

While the thought of attending 12 different Creative Art Experiences seems scary, not only is it feasible, but it can also be very engaging and fun. Fulfilling these credits can be as easy as sitting in a classroom watching a movie or listening to a jazz band perform. The key to enjoying them is to choose events that seem interesting to you.
