Michelin star McLane? Students feast on favorite stadium snacks

Whether it’s a hot dog, popcorn, Chick-fil-A sandwich or funnel cake, stadium snacks are enough to bring a smile to students’ faces no matter what the scoreboard says. After all, food is the way to every college student’s heart.

Willis junior Andi McCulloch said she is very proud of her game day hot dog order.

“My favorite food is a hot dog — but specifically with chili and cheese on top,” McCulloch said. “No beans, with sauerkraut as well. Mustard and jalapeños and a toasted sourdough bun. Split the hot dog in half with cheese.”

McCulloch isn’t the only one who loves a good football hot dog. Frisco senior Elizabeth Lohec said she likes the delicacy, but a bit more plain.

“I prefer my hot dogs with ketchup and mustard, but it has to be a really good bun,” Lohec said. “Some of my friends like to eat their dogs dry. I’m not like that. The occasional relish is OK.”

While hot dogs take the spotlight, there are many more foods to enjoy at McLane. Southlake junior Amelia Davidson said that after tailgating, she prefers to satisfy her hunger with a different snack.

“I enjoy an unsalted pretzel — because the salted ones are too salty, and then I get thirsty and have to buy a drink. That’s no fun,” Davidson said. “Or, I’ll do a little funnel cake because it’s a sweet treat.”

Meanwhile, Friendswood sophomore Tabitha Dalton said she has an affinity for stadium corn dogs.

“My favorite food at the stadium is a corn dog because they are a foot long, so you get more bang for your buck,” Dalton said. “The outside batter is very soft and doughy on the inside. It can be kind of raw on the inside, which is how I like it, but it has a nice, crispy crunch on the outside.”

Carlsbad, Calif., sophomore Sara Miskolczy said she usually sticks with Chick-fil-A. Going to her first Baylor football game as a transfer student, she was excited to see she could grab a sandwich at McLane without the delivery fees or the wait time.

“Since I transferred here, I didn’t know a lot about the food at the stadium, but I literally jumped for joy when I saw the Chick-fil-A stand,” Miskolczy said. “Normally, I get just a chicken sandwich, but when I’m feeling extra hungry after a long game, I snatch the fries too for an extra treat.”
