The Department of Career and Professional Development is hosting an event for Baylor students today at Waco’s Richland Mall. The event is sponsored by JCPenney and Sephora where each store will offer sales on men and women’s professional clothing for students so that they will be prepared to enter the professional work field in a presentable way.

From 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. this Sunday JCPenney will close their doors to the public and offer a private shopping event for Baylor students with a valid student ID. Professional wear, such as suits, ties, pants, blouses etc. will be marked 40 percent to 50 percent down from original prices. However, students that check in when they arrive with their ID will be given a coupon for an additional 40 percent off.

Sephora will also be giving tutorials for women on how to do their makeup and hair in ways that are appropriate for a professional environment. Apart from the large sales and sophisticated clothes, there will also be a DJ, drinks, snacks and raffle prizes.

“We were very excited to have JCPenney approach us and bring this opportunity to our students on campus,” Haley Davis, Career Events and Program Planner of the Career and Professional Development Department, said.

This is an opportunity for students, especially for those who are soon to enter the professional work world, to have affordable clothes made available to them. JCPenney offers this shopping experience at other universities, such as University of Oklahoma, and this is the first year the opportunity will be available in Waco.

“As a business major, I’m really excited about this event,” Cypress, senior, Heather Mayer said. “When I graduate in May I will have so many meetings and it’s important that I always look professional. Having this available to us is one less thing I have to worry about before graduation.”
