The rock wall is the McLane Student Life Center’s main feature. However, many students pass up on this opportunity because they do not realize how easy it is to climb the wall.

While most students come and have one of the employees at the SLC belay for them, Baylor also offers a quick and easy $5 class that teaches students how to climb on their own.

Shoreline, Washington sophomore Danny Helms, who took the belay class said, “you have three check offs to do later on different days to show that you remember it and then once you do that you are good to go and you can come and climb and belay whenever you want.”

Instead of waiting for one of the employees to help him, Helms and his friend (who was also certified) rented out some gear and began to climb the wall on their own.

The rock wall is open Monday, Friday and Saturday from 12 p.m to 10 p.m., Tuesday to Thursday from 12 p.m. to midnight, and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The belay class is offered six days a week from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

If you’re looking for a fun escape from a stressful week, look no further then the rock wall inside the SLC. You might find that climbing is easier then you think.
