Baylor soccer picked up its first loss of the season Friday night in a 2-1 result against Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

UVU got on the board in the third minute. The ball deflected off a Baylor defender and UVU’s Kasandra Anderson struck it on her first touch from 25 yards out. Anderson’s goal was the first Baylor conceded in the regular season. UVU put pressure was on Baylor already just three minutes into the match, but Baylor responded well with creating chances throughout.

Baylor senior forward Justine Hovden blazed down the flank to put in a cross that sophomore midfielder Ashley York put into the top of the net in the 38th minute. A fantastic team effort to equalize the score gave the Lady Bears a boost in morale for the second half.

Utah Valley got the game-winner late in the match with a shot from distance that ripped through the hands of senior goalkeeper Michelle Kloss in the 83rd minute.

The Lady Bears (2-1-0) take a short trip to Brigham Young University for the last match of their weekend stretch in Utah at 2 p.m. on Monday.
