With midterms approaching, the fitness department has opportunities for students to work off their stress, including a free weights series. After the New Year’s resolution surge of gym attendance, the next peak comes at this time of the semester, said Clint Patterson, coordinator of fitness at the McLane Student Life Center.

Faculty and students can sign up for a personal trainer at the Student Life Center to help them reach their goals and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
As convenient as it is to have a treadmill or elliptical reveal the amount of calories burned during an exercise, these machines are not as accurate as believed. Many cardiovascular machines are 15 to 20 percent off in calculation of calories burned, Van Davis, assistant director for fitness and nutrition education.

For those looking for an overall body workout, Bearobics is now offering two new fitness classes: Street Jazz and HardCORE Conditioning. Street Jazz will be taught by graduate student Heather Jade at 3 p.m. every Monday and HardCORE conditioning will be taught by Houston freshman Becca Dixon at 3 p.m. every Wednesday, both in the Bearobics studio location.
